Uphill 10 meters (south aspect) the forest becomes dry and oaky. Small patches of herbaceous communities dominated by twisted sedge (plot 311) are scattered in stream channel above waterfalls.;Narrow band of yellow birch confined to the cold, eroded, rocky banks along a high gradient stream. There is no soil development. Trees and shrubs are rooted down through rocks.

ELU 2333 (high elevation slope bottom on shale). Community is a narrow corridor on steep rocky banks and colluvial slopes along high gradient stream.
